This piece is born from a raw, real-world moment of witness. While exploring, I came across a fallen, decaying tree trunk resting over the water- a stark image of stillness and passing. Yet, looking closer, I was so amazed to see that new growth was still able to happen. It felt incredible that life refuses to stop, even there.

I took a photograph to capture it, and later translated that physical encounter into this oil painting. Cool, fluid depths of deep teal and aquatic blues ground the physical environment, while striking, electric lines of neon color erupt outward – capturing that amazing energy of living things thriving against all odds. It serves as a visual reminder that no matter what has fallen away, renewal is always quietly finding a way to happen.
